Connecting the yard and the living room
Connecting the yard and the living room
“Between inside and outside”
The project was started by the demand “We want a flat house with private garden or a kitchen garden”.
Although the area where used to be pastoral land had dotted settlements, the population irrupted in the area as a commuter town within few decades since there was the adjustment of city-lots.
The plan set on the deformed site has three characteristic gardens such as the private garden possible to see from every rooms, the public garden open for outside, the kitchen garden and these gardens and building are placed in a heap.
A sense of distance is important to be together for long time, not only for person but also for house.
Through the courtyard to measure the distance, possible to feel the presence of family spending time in opposite room. Also, this house open for the courtyard protects the privacy, and at the same time the courtyard allows to bring the atmosphere of the town inside of the house.
We think that a house is also a place to create a community in a town. Even though it is probably not so easy, we believe that a house should be open for surrounding area with protecting a privacy.
Lowering the volume of building not to give an oppressive feeling, planting trees on a gently-sloping artificial hill, these ideas protects the privacy with feasting people’s eyes on the street.
And we hope the house gives the surroundings richness, peacefulness, vigor, and a chance to create a community.
